The Black Sea is not even half as salty as the oceans. The Mediteraneean sea is sweeter than the oceans, but much more salty than the Black Sea... Think of all the Danube flowing from Germany to Romania through Europe.. sweet water pouring in the Black Sea wich connects with the other seas only through the Bosphorus strait in Istanbul - Turkey. So, all that water is kind'of containded within the Black Sea. :)

Sweet, no? :boogie: well, it IS salty. Only not asa salty as the other ones...
:iconexthemax:
so the Black Sea is not black as its name :)
and it is a miracle that the salty water and the less salty water not intermixing together at the straits....indeed the Black Sea is a really mysterious sea

Take a look at the map! The Bosphorus strait is only a few kilometers wide (i'm not sure of the exact number) and not very deep. In the Black Sea there is a layer of water only 200m deep from the surface where fish can live. The rest is almost dead because the Black Sea doesn't have vertical circulation and currents to refresh the deeper waters and through the Bosphorus only the top layer is mixed with some salty water... Besides... the water tends to flow from the Black Sea into the Mediterrana, not the other way... And Until the Mediterrana there is first the Marmara Sea wich makes the transfer of salts n' stuff.

Whatever... I like to swim in them. And maybe windsurf on them.. :D That's all!
